Healthy Holidays
The holidays are filled with parties where tables seemingly bow under the weight of rich, over-laden, and indulgent dishes. Unless you hibernate during the winter season, it is impossible to escape the lure of delicious sweet, and savory treats. It is no wonder that overindulging during this time of year results in unwanted pounds.
There is a better way, however. Avoid the unwanted pounds and sluggishness resulting from too many holiday goodies by utilizing simple strategies. When January rolls around, not only will you be happy you did, but you will have one less resolution on your list as well.
Holiday parties
Save the calories for the parties. You know what to expect at the holiday parties: cookies, fudge, cake, delicious beverages, fatty main dishes, and lots of candy. With the proliferation of all of these delectable enticements, it is no wonder that the pounds pile on during the holidays. To counteract this problem, don’t allow these foods in your own home. That way, when you eat the calorie-laden goodies at the holiday party, they won’t have as much of an impact on your waistline or your overall health. Consider it a practical and inexpensive form of health insurance.
Tasty food
Only eat what you love. It is unrealistic to deprive yourself of holiday feasting. Tasty food is so prevalent at this time of year that setting these types of standards often results in overeating. Instead of depriving yourself of all holiday foods, promise yourself to only eat a reasonable amount of foods that you love. Not only will you feel happier, but you will feel satisfied which will make it easier to resist less-enticing snacks.
Exercise
Engage in mild exercise. Any exercise is better than no exercise, and if it has been a while since you have engaged in vigorous movement, it won’t take much to make a difference. The key here is to keep expectations low. At a convenient time for you, do a few basic, easy exercises that you select after consulting with your healthcare provider. Gradually increase the repetitions and in no time, you will be standing taller and noticing how much better you look. Don’t worry about burning calories to make up for the treats you eat. The real benefit is that you will look better and the increase in self-esteem increases your determination not to overeat.
With these easy adjustments, you are sure to breeze through the holiday season without feeling deprived or accumulating unwanted pounds along the way. Happy holidays!
